Description:
This course equips teachers with practical tools to recognise, analyse and teach about misinformation, fake news and digital manipulation. Participants explore media literacy frameworks, algorithmic bias, fact-checking techniques and strategies for teaching responsible digital citizenship. The course focuses on building critical thinking skills and preparing students to navigate today’s complex information landscape safely and responsibly.
Aims and objectives:
Participants will:
- Understand key mechanisms of misinformation and online manipulation
- Develop skills to evaluate sources critically and identify fake news
- Learn classroom-ready media literacy activities
- Explore tools for teaching digital citizenship and online safety
- Strengthen students' critical thinking and resilience to manipulation
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify signs of misinformation using structured criteria
- Teach fact-checking and source evaluation techniques
- Explain algorithmic bias and filter bubbles in student-friendly language
- Facilitate classroom discussions on media influence
- Implement age-appropriate media literacy exercises
- Support students in becoming responsible digital citizens
