This hands-on course focuses on mentoring strategies that help VET students succeed in dual education and apprenticeships. Participants learn how to balance workplace requirements with pedagogical support, fostering both professional and personal growth.

Description:

In this training, VET teachers and workplace mentors will explore effective mentorship models tailored to work-based learning systems. The programme combines theory with practical exercises, including role-play, case studies, and peer feedback, to strengthen mentoring and communication skills. Special attention is given to assessment tools that ensure fair and constructive evaluation in real workplace settings.

Aims and objectives:

- Develop strong mentoring competences for workplace-based training
- Enhance collaboration between schools and companies in dual education
- Strengthen communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills
- Align mentoring practices with Erasmus+ priorities: digitalisation, inclusion, sustainability

Learning outcomes:

- Apply effective mentoring strategies in real workplaces
- Design fair and transparent workplace assessments
- Improve student motivation and engagement during apprenticeships
- Build long-term partnerships between schools and enterprises

Day 1 — Introduction to Work‑Based Learning and Mentorship Welcome, course overview, expectations and participant introductions Understanding work‑based learning (WBL) and the role of mentoring in VET Exploring the mentor’s role: responsibilities, ethics and learner support (Establishes the foundational context for mentoring in real workplace settings.)
Day 2 — Effective Communication and Relationship Building Communication strategies for positive mentor‑mentee relationships Techniques for giving constructive feedback and active listening Trust building and motivational approaches for learners (Focuses on interpersonal skills central to successful mentorship.)
Day 3 — Mentoring Strategies and Pedagogical Support Practical mentoring models and strategies tailored to workplace learning Role‑play and case study exercises to practice mentoring scenarios Balancing workplace requirements with pedagogical support (Develops practical mentoring skills in interactive formats.)
Day 4 — Assessment and Reflective Practice Designing fair and transparent assessment tools for WBL contexts Reflection techniques for mentors and students to improve learning outcomes Handling challenges, conflict resolution and continuous improvement (Emphasises reflection, assessment and problem‑solving skills.)
Day 5 — Integration, Action Planning and Transfer to Practice Presentation of personal mentoring concepts or workplace strategies Peer review and constructive feedback on implementation plans Creating individual action plans to apply mentoring practices in participants’ home contexts (Supports transfer of learning, action planning and Erasmus+ dissemination priorities.)
